What is DMIC?

A plain-language introduction to the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor.

The short answer

The Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) is a planned industrial development programme linking Delhi and Mumbai along roughly 1,500 km. It is implemented through the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC).

Instead of scattered factories, the idea is to build planned industrial cities with land, power, water and logistics, then connect them to ports, airports, expressways and freight rail.

The backbone: freight corridor

The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, running from the Mumbai port region to Dadri in Uttar Pradesh, is the rail backbone. Cities and logistics hubs are planned to connect to it.

States covered

Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra, with Delhi NCR at the northern end.
